Over the weekend, Carey Lyons continued to pile on the awards and athletic recognition on top of her already impressive year. After two first place performances and another runner up at the 2015 North Coast Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships to be crowned Women's Distance Runner of the Year for the second time.
Â
Lyons won two events over Friday and Saturday while finishing as a close runner-up in the 1,500. Lyons doubled up on Distance Runner of the Year laurels after receiving the honor at the indoor championships.
Â
In the women's 1,500-meter run, Lyons attempted to double up on individual titles following her triumph in the 3,000-meter steeplechase yesterday. Lyons would be out done by Ohio Wesleyan's Abbey Warth and finish second with a time of 4:43.76, but her day was not over.
Â
In her final event of the weekend, Lyons ran to a third All-NCAC performance with a first place finish in the final of the women's 5k.
Â
Lyons jumped out early and ran at the front of the pack first few laps until it was cut to three and eventually two. Lyons battled with Ohio Wesleyan's Sarah Fowler until kicking in with 500-meters left to cruise to a comfortable victory. Lyons completed the 12½-lap trek in 18:04.36.
Lyons' three event outing helped the Yeowomen finish second with 133 points.
