Ben Corley enters his second season as assistant swimming and diving coach at Oberlin College in 2023-24.
In his first year with the program, Corley was vital in leading the men's and women's tremendous success in the pool.
During the 2021-22 season at Emmanuel College in Franklin Springs, Georgia, Corley ran the Distance/IM group with large amounts of success in both the pool and the classroom. His units won both the men's and women's Conference Carolinas Swim Titles, coaching 13 individual conference champions (including both the men's and women's conference Freshman of the Year) and taking a team of 11 qualifiers to NCAA Swimming Championships. Throughout the season, the Lions set four conference records and 13 team records while also earning an undefeated regular season record.
While at Emmanuel College the Women's Triathlon Team finished 8th in NCAA Div. II, the Men's Open Water team finished 2nd at Open Water Nationals in 2021 and the men's swim team was ranked as high as 12th in the NCAA during the '21-'22 season. Both the men's and women's teams were Academic All-America and seven individual Lions qualified for first - or second-team Scholar All-America.
From 2016-2021, Corley was the assistant FINA swimming coach/recruiting coordinator /assistant aquatics director for the SPIRE International Swimming Academy in Geneva, Ohio. At SPIRE, he coached 12 swimmers that were either on the Rio 2016 or Tokyo 2020 Olympic teams for their respective countries. He mentored 20 FINA World Championship veterans; hosted the NCAA Division II National Swimming Championships, Atlantic 10 Championships, Big East Championships, Junior Nationals, Futures and Sectionals (among others) while at the SPIRE facility.
Prior to that, Corley’s coaching stops included Palmetto Aquatics Associate Head Swimming Coach (2010-2016) A.C. Flora High School Head Swimming Coach (2010-2016) Age Group Swimming Coach out of the University of South Carolina pool (2006-2010).
Corley is originally from Lexington, SC where he swam competitively four years for Lexington High School and Swim Columbia, breaking six school records. In college, Corley swam at The College of Charleston, breaking two school relay records.
He earned his bachelor’s of science in physics from The College of Charleston in 2003 and also earned a master's degree in organizational leadership from Colorado State University.
