Marty Dugan
Marty has been retired from professional work since a brain tumor was discovered in 2005. He has amazed us all with his stamina and commitment to fitness. Those attributes and ongoing chemotherapy have kept things under control. He devotes his time to his local Boys and Girls Club, helping with homework. At the other end of the spectrum, he coaches senior citizens in their pursuit of fitness.
Marty was one of the founding members of the Heisman Club. It is really his "baby". He helped define the scope of goals of the club in 1979 and has found it important to have a role in its ongoing influence.
Marty received press from Time magazine in 1973 for his appointment as golf coach of Oberlin's team. He was still an Oberlin student at the time and this was a first in NCAA history.Â
"I used to think I was marginal. Now I think I was important."
