2009 Women's Lacrosse Season Outlook

SEASON OUTLOOK

The Oberlin College women’s lacrosse team has a blend of veteran leadership with promising young talent that is sure to propel the Yeowomen up the ranks in the North Coast Athletic Conference.

Sophomore Taylor Fey returns as the league’s top scorer after an impressive 57 goals in 2008. The All-NCAC First-Team midfielder also ranked first in draw controls per game (4.21) and caused turnovers per game (1.57). The Raymond, Maine native earned IWLCA All-Region accolades and set a new NCAC record with 10 goals in a 22-20 victory over Pacific (3/24/08). One of the best all-around athletes in the league, Fey also ended second in the league in points (70/5 ppg), shots per game (8.57) and free-position goals per game (.71).

Senior midfielder Dana Rich and senior defender Grace Eginton look to lead the Yeowomen to victory this season with their tenacious spirit and refined skills. Rich hopes to better her 24 goal performance from 2007 while Eginton, an IWLCA Academic All-American, anchors the defense in front of the cage as she out-hustles opponents to ground balls. Senior Kira Rivera, who split time in the cage last year, will help solidify the defense with her eye for interceptions and will look to repeat her conference leading performance in caused turnovers.

Maggie Casey, who scored 14 goals a year ago, along with Rosanne Alexandre-Leach and Emily Chu Finkel are forces to be reckoned with on the offensive end. Juniors Kayla Brandt and Maddie Fierstein, and sophomore Alison Masyr gained valuable playing experience last season that will prove invaluable on the field this season.

First-years Ariel Schuster, Alice Zicht and Noelle Pavlovic have the opportunity to shine immediately as attacking midfielders, while Lori Sako and Amanda Travers look to provide speed to the Yeowomen defensive midfield transition. First-year Emily
Perry will be between the pipes this season for the Yeowomen.

Oberlin begins the season on March 16th at Trine University and will compete in their first home game March 31st against Fredonia.
