Jesse Philips Physical Education Center

The Jesse Philips Physical Education Center is a 115,000-square-foot facility. Its gymnasiums are used for basketball, volleyball, and intramural and other recreational activities. Other facilities in Philips include: the Robert Carr Pool; Climbing Wall; Weight Rooms containing Hammer Strength, Cybex Selectorized and Universal weight training machines, and free-weights; and six racquetball courts, one of which is set up as an indoor batting cage for varsity athletes, and eight squash courts, three of which are set up for table tennis and one for indoor golf.

Philips is also the home for the Department of Athletics & Physical Education.  The building houses all the offices of Oberlin's varsity programs as well as the administration and support staff.  With a variety of offerings, Philips is the sole location for the campus' recreational interests.

The North Lobby of the Philips Center is the site of the Oberlin College Heisman Club Hall of Fame with members' photographs on the brick columns and athletic trophies and All American certificates on the walls. The lobby also serves as a location for occasional receptions. It is the main entrance to the Athletics Complex and the site of the climbing wall, dedicated in September 2004.

In the summer of 2010, the weight room underwent heavy renovations.  After nearly $250,000 from the college and another $30,000 from the Heisman Club, the weight room has received a much needed facelift.   WEIGHT ROOM PHOTOS

In the fall of 2012 another generous donation was given to continue to improve the weight room facility.  In support of the health and wellness initiative, the weight room now has new Life Fitness weight machines as well as new dumbbells, kettle bells, half rack and a vertimax pro.
