Oberlin, Ohio – Hosting their second North Coast matchup of the season, the Oberlin College women's lacrosse team faced John Carroll on Tuesday evening. Dropping the 10-5 contest, Oberlin shifts to 10-2 (1-1) on the season.
Kylie Thompson led the Crimson and Gold with a pair of goals and an assist for a team-high three points, while Olivia Corradi notched a pair of goals. Charlie Marshall posted her second season goal while Megan Hiller added an assist in the match.
On defense, Corradi led with two draws and a caused turnover, while Phoebe Dolan notched four ground balls, and Rachel Reiter and Emily Berger combined for five ground balls. Berger played a full 60 minutes in net, amassing a season-high 14 saves.
John Carroll got on board with a goal two minutes into the game. Drawing a free-position opportunity, Corradi drilled her shot past the Blue Streaks' goalkeeper to even the match at 6:16. Winning the ensuing draw, John Carroll scored another quick goal to make it a 2-1 game. With 25 seconds remaining in the period, Hiller connected with Marshall, sending the ball to the bottom corner to tie the visitors leading into the second quarter.
The Blue Streaks tallied back-to-back goals in the early minutes of the second session, administering a strong defense and keeping Oberlin away from the net. Under a minute until halftime, JCU committed a foul in the eight-meter as Thompson stepped up for the free position. Sending the ball to the bottom left past the Blue Streaks' keeper, Thompson cut Oberlin's deficit to one.
John Carroll put up a tough battle for the Crimson and Gold in the third, scoring four goals and keeping Oberlin to just two shots on goal. Adding another goal midway through the final quarter, the Blue Streaks produced a shot-clock violation with just over two minutes remaining. The Yeowomen made the successful clear as Thompson was granted another free-position opportunity. Launching the ball into the net, the sophomore remained perfect in free-position opportunities.
JCU responded in the subsequent draw with a quick goal to push to a 10-4 edge. Thrilling the crowd with a final goal with nine minutes until time expired, Thompson sent a pass to Corradi, who found the back of the net to score the man-up goal. Capitalizing on the shutout third period, John Carroll secured the conference victory.
The Crimson and Gold return to North Coast action on Saturday, April 11, when they travel to DePauw. Opening draw is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
