Oberlin, Ohio – Securing their tenth win of the season, the Oberlin College women's lacrosse team trampled Wittenberg 14-5 on Saturday afternoon. Moving to 10-1 on the season, Oberlin also grabbed their first win of their North Coast schedule.
Kylie Thompson led the team in points with seven on three goals and four assists.
Olivia Corradi also recorded a hat trick with three goals, while
Megan Hiller added three assists. Hiller tallied another pair of goals in the contest to move her point total to five. With five points in today's game, Hiller becomes the second all-time points leader in Oberlin's history (187)
On defense,
Emily Berger earned the start in cage and made three saves over 30 minutes, while shutting out the Tigers.
Janny McCormick and
Taryn Schwartz came in for relief, with Shwartz amassing a team-best five saves.
Corradi had an excellent performance on the circle, leading the team with six draw controls.
Phoebe Dolan followed suit with four draw controls, with
Maddie Weathers, Hiller,
Katie McMorris, and
Hannah Weissman all supported the draw efforts as well.
After Thompson scored in the first 30 seconds of the game, the two foes went back-and-forth until Corradi broke the stalemate with a goal.
Ale Bernal caused a turnover on a Wittenberg clear, failing the transition and regaining possession for Oberlin. Thompson scooped the loose ball and found Corradi who put it away in the back of the net. The senior scored again less than a minute later to grab her 20th goal of the season.
After three more goals to end the frame, the Yeowomen came out swinging in the second period with goals from the sophomore class of
Sophie Ward,
Maddie Darlington,
Charlie Marshall, and Thompson.
Up 11-0, the Yeowomen continued to dominate the Tigers, shutting them out for a third-straight quarter. Corradi, Hiller, and Thompson all added goals to the mix, extending Oberlin's lead to 14.
Wittenberg finally found their momentum in the final frame and scored four-consecutive goal to break the drought. Ending the run for the Tigers and clinching the win,
Elle Lavin found
Lauren Deardorf in the final two minutes for the last goal of the game.
Oberlin returns to action when they host John Carroll this Tuesday, April 7. The North Coast matchup is set to begin at 6 p.m.
