Granville, Ohio - Saturday afternoon, the No. 26 Oberlin College men's tennis team competed in the semifinals of the North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament. Seeded No. 3, the Yeomen were pitted against the No. 2 seed, Kenyon, who is ranked No. 9 nationally, and lost 4-0. This loss puts the Crimson and Gold's final season record at 15-7.
Doubles was quickly swept by the Owls as they took out the No. 3 doubles team of Oliver Knijnenburg and Enrique Margain. The new duo put up a good fight, taking the net by storm, but Alejandro Gonzalez and Eliezer Gonzalez maintained their composure at 2-2. The Owls took four games in a row to win 6-2.
The No. 2 doubles team, Sebastien Naginski and Dash Smith, faced similar results, going down 6-2 closing a successful season together. Court one was put on halt after Kenyon won the doubles point. However, Shawn Lisann and Cameron Weiss were down 5-2.
Singles matches began on shaky footing. Smith, at No. 1 singles, lost 6-0, 6-0 to the Kenyon first-year, Maximo Llamas. Makada at No. 3 singles went down 6-3, 6-1, despire putting up a good fight against the renowned fourth year, Paulo Pocasangre.
Down 3-0, the Yeomen had some successes in the final moments of the match. Lisann at No. 2 singles performed well under pressure, winning his first set in a seven-point breaker before stopping at 1-2 in the second set. Weiss had stolen the momentum from his opponent, Jay Dixit, on court four, losing the first set 6-4 but coming back 6-3 in the second. He stopped play in the third set, down 1-0. Margain at No. 5 singles had undertaken a tremendous effort on court five, losing 6-1 in the first, but coming back 6-3 in the second.
Everything came to an end on court six as Naginski was taken out 6-2, 6-1 by Sree Kondaveeti. Though the senior played hard, using every trick in the book, it was not enough to defeat or stall his Kenyon counterpart.
With this dual match over, the Crimson and Gold conclude a historic 2026 season. With wins over ranked opponents and program records, the Yeomen look to return all but three for next year's campaign.
