Crimson and Gold Continue to Roll in Sunshine State

Winter Haven, Florida – Continuing a perfect week in central Florida, the Oberlin College baseball team grabbed a win over Hamilton on Monday afternoon. The 7-2 victory catapults the Yeomen to 9-6-1 on the year while extending their win streak to six games.

Rookie right-hander Jameson Bryant threw an incredible 7.0 innings to earn the second win of his career. The Maine native collected nine strikeouts and put away 12 more on the ground and in the air. Classmate Quinn Bamberger came in for the final two innings of relief, completing the win with two strikeouts of his own.

Five different Obies recorded hits in the game: Brady Groves, Kyle Baxt, Robbie Lynn, Anton Shelton, and You-Fu Chen. Daniel Devapalan led the team with a pair of runs, while Baxt, Lynn, and Shelton added a run as well.

After the first four innings went scoreless for both teams, the Crimson and Gold cracked open the scoring on a sacrifice fly from Chen. A 1-2-3 inning to follow in the top of the six, gave the Yeomen a chance to build off their momentum in the bottom half. With the bases loaded on two outs, an error by the Continentals that allowed Sam Labrecque and Baxt to score. Devapalan closed the highest-scoring inning of the game with score off a wild pitch.

Hamilton responded in the top of the seventh to cut into Oberlin lead, but the Yeomen regained their footing after Leonard scored on Baxt's sacrifice bunt. Lynn and Shelton touched home to make it a 7-2 game with one final inning for Hamilton to respond. Going strikeout, ground out, and a swing and a miss, Oberlin closed a perfect ninth inning to claim victory.

"I'm proud we are playing well together in all three phases [of the game], and getting to see a lot of different guys come up big for us. Head Coach John Ray said, "We are doing the little things really good right now."

Oberlin takes a day off before returning to work on Wednesday, March 25. Facing Williams at 11 a.m. in the first half of a doubleheader day, Oberlin takes on Carleton at 2:30 p.m. to close out their spring break trip.
