Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Oberlin Secures First Shutout Victory Since 2013

Alma, Michigan – Blanking Alma with an impressive 20-0 win, the Oberlin College women's lacrosse team clinched their first shutout victory since 2013 and their highest shutout victory in the modern statistical era. With this historic win, the Crimson and Gold improve to 7-1 overall.

A trio of Obies secured hat tricks in Oberlin's high-scoring day, with Mary Rodman and Maddie Darlington registering three goals and one assist each, while Sophie Ward notched three goals. Megan Hiller led with six points on a pair of goals and a team-high four assists, while Kylie Thompson recorded a pair of goals and a pair of assists.

Olivia Corradi produced five draw controls while Maddie Weathers and Phoebe Dolan combined for six draws. Mya Valdez tied her career best with three caused turnovers to go with two ground balls. Janny McCormick and Taryn Schwartz split halves in the net with McCormick to start. Earning her first career shutout, McCormick faced zero on-target shots while Schwartz posted one save.

Corradi snatched the opening draw, bringing the ball quickly to Oberlin's offensive end as Darlington scored in the first minute. Halfway through the session, Ward found the back of the net after a successful clear, lifting the Crimson and Gold's lead to two. With under two minutes remaining in the period, Hiller drilled the ball past the Scots' goalkeeper followed by another goal from Ward, extending Oberlin to a 4-0 lead after the opening quarter.

The Yeowomen offense surged in the second frame, delivering four goals in the first three minutes. Midway through the period, Rodman connected with Darlington, pushing Oberlin's edge to nine. Immediately following Darlington's goal, Lauren Deardorf's goal surged the Crimson and Gold to a 10-0 advantage, initiating the running clock with 6:44 remaining in the second. Rodman tallied one more goal in the final minute leading into the halftime break.

Continuing their opening-minute success, Rodman launched the second half with a goal after receiving a pass from Thompson. With just over a minute remaining in the third, Schwartz faced the only on-target shot from Alma but kept the Scots off the scoreboard. Registering five more goals in the final period and keeping Alma out of the net, Oberlin surpassed the point total of their only other shutout victory in the modern statistical era, in which they defeated former conference opponent Hiram 18-0 in 2013.

"The team played an extremely clean and classy game today. I'm very proud of the execution we saw all over the field," Head Coach Malory Nadrah adds. "We had a lot of fun together, working hard and having success as a team."

The Crimson and Gold will bring their high-scoring game to the Pacific coast when they take on Lewis & Clark on Friday, March 27. Opening draw is scheduled for 12 p.m. local time (3 p.m. Eastern).
