Oberlin, Ohio - In a solid conference debut for the season, Oberlin College men's tennis swept the John Carroll Blue Streaks 7-0 in a home game. This victory propels the Yeomen to a 6-3 record overall, and a 1-0 record against NCAC conference opponents.
Starting in doubles, sophomore Enrique Margain and third year Zain Makada teamed-up and quickly won three doubles, 6-2. The senior team of Shawn Lisann and Sebastien Naginski followed-up with a 6-1 win at No. 2 to clinch the doubles point. First-years Cameron Weiss and Dash Smith joined forces for the first time, winning 6-3 in the top slot.
With the doubles point secure, Oberlin continued their on to the singles competitions. Margain covered the whole court with solid net play for a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 4. Makada followed less than ten minutes later in the No. 3 spot, claiming a 6-1, 6-1. For the match clinch, Smith cruised past his JCU counterpart, Anthony Markello, winning 6-1, 6-0.
With the victory certain, Weiss, claimed a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 5. Lisann closed out his match at No. 1 before his opponent could strike back, 6-2, 7-5. Lastly, Naginski had a smooth victory at No. 6, winning 6-1, 6-0.
Naginski had this to say about the dual match: "The team did a really good job dialing-in for the first conference match. [It was] one of those matches where we've got to come out, play with quality, and really assert ourselves. That's what we did, so I am really happy for the team."
The team now begins preparing for a series of spring break matches from March 23 to 25 at Hilton Head. Their first match will be against Lawrence on March 23, at 9 a.m.
