Danville, Kentucky – Opening the season on the road, the Oberlin College women's lacrosse team brings home victory after dominating Centre 11-3 on Saturday afternoon.
"It's exciting to open season with a win." Head Coach
Malory Nadrah says of her team's effort, "Our defense shined today as we stayed very composed through being even to several people down. Our goalie staff played tremendous. It was great to see lots of different players on the box score, it shows that we are playing a true team offense."
Megan Hiller led the incredible start, scoring six points on two goals and four assists. Alongside the senior was
Kylie Thompson with a pair of goals and assists.
Sophie Ward and
Olivia Corradi rounded out the multi-goals performers with two each, while combining for two assists.
At the draw,
Rachel Reiter led the team with four draw controls, followed by
Katie McMorris and
Maddie Darlington with two apiece. On defense,
Maddie Weathers' three ground balls tied with Reiter's total, with the duo accounting for two caused turnovers.
Earning the start in goal,
Emily Berger collected six saves over the first two quarters, allowing just two goals for the Colonels.
Janny McCormick came in for the second half, making eight saves and keeping the home team off the board. Making her season debut in the final quarter,
Taryn Schwartz made one stop and allowed just one goal.
Less than two minutes into the 2026 campaign,
Charlie Marshall forced a turnover after the draw leading to a Thompson-Ward score to start the game. The Yeowomen steadied after the hot start, giving way to a goal before the end of the quarter.
The second frame was all Crimson and Gold, with a trio of Obies ripping off goals in the first four minutes. Hiller scored first, followed by Darlington on the free position. After the sophomore,
Phoebe Dolan scored her first of the year before
Lauren Deardorf capitalized on a player-up opportunity. With momentum, Oberlin scored three more before the half closed from Thompson,
Mary Rodman, and Corradi.
There was little Centre could muster against the Yeowomen, who responded to their hefty attack with an impenetrable defense in the third quarter. Conceding no goals while adding two, Oberlin cruised through the final period for the victory.
Oberlin stays on the road for their next contest, a tussle with Grove City on Wednesday, February 25. The draw is set to go up at 4 p.m.
