Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Oberlin Falls to Calvin

Oberlin, Ohio - Hosting their second home match of the season, the Oberlin College men's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision to non-conference opponent Calvin on Saturday afternoon. With the loss, the Crimson and Gold move to 1-5 on the year.

Junior Vince Fortuna served as Oberlin's lone goalkeeper for the full 90 minutes, making his first full-game appearance and totaling three saves.

Chasing the ball down the field, junior Michael Dolton snatched the ball from the Knights defender and launched a shot to the bottom left corner of the goal at 11:23 to score his first career goal and get the Yeomen on the board. Calvin controlled possession for much of the period until the Knights' Wil Hornbaker sent an on-target shot that bounced off of Fortuna before Zac Brooks sent a shot to the top right to score the equalizer. Neither team was able to deliver a shot on goal for the remainder of the period, going into the second half tied 1-1.

Capitalizing on a corner ten minutes into the second half, Calvin's Matt Torrell sent a pass to Jonah Meyer-Crothers to send a shot just out of Fortuna's reach to notch a second goal for the Knights and take the lead 2-1. First-year Brendan Tan and classmate Orlando Popkin put pressure on Calvin from center midfield to help the Crimson and Gold maintain possession of the ball. Oberlin's best opportunities to tie the game came from Suryansh Yadav and Nathan Thompson, but neither were able to successfully convert their shots into goals until time expired.

The Crimson and Gold will return to action on Wednesday, September 17 when they host Allegheny. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
