Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Yeomen Come Up Short at Case Western Reserve

Cleveland, Ohio – Traveling downtown for a midweek match up, the Oberlin College men's soccer team tussled with Case Western Reserve on Wednesday night. Coming up on the wrong side of a 3-0 scoreline, the Yeomen drop to 1-4 on the year.

The Spartans jumped out to an early 1-0 lead after a penalty shot in the tenth minute. Capitalizing on the Yeomen's blunder, CWRU continued to roll with another goal just minutes later.

Oberlin tried to get on the board with a shot from Hudson Gazdak to the lower left corner, but CWRU's Bradley Winter made the stop. Enrique Porras Jr. and Christopher Plenca tag-teamed for another pair of shots, but neither could convert their efforts into goals. Case added one more score before the half expired, taking a 3-0 lead into the break.

Entering the second half of the match, the Spartans struck first with a shot to the bottom center of cage. Minutes later, Case Western Reserve shot again, but Lukas Verling made both saves to keep the Yeomen afloat. In the final minutes, Orlando Popkin took a last-ditch shot, sending the ball high above the crossbar.

Oberlin was unable to get on the board before the final whistle, giving up the 3-0 loss. The Yeomen look to return to their winning ways on Saturday, September 13 back on Shults Field. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m.
