Softball Caps Season on Senior Day

Wooster, Ohio – After celebrating Jess Friedman and Olivia Gonzalez on neutral turf in Wooster, Ohio, the Oberlin College softball team took on the Fighting Scots in Sunday doubleheader.

Taking the start in the circle for game one, Hailey Alspach collected a trio of strikeouts on top of a pair of stolen bases.

Kailey Dunham, Ava Soldo, and Alspach finished with a hit apiece, while Dunham added an RBI to bring in Oberlin's sole run. Scoring in the bottom of the fifth, Soldo's leadoff hit kicked off a hot inning for the Crimson and Gold. Pinch running for Soldo, Gonzalez moved to third after Roxie Freifeld laid down a sacrifice bunt to advance the senior. A single into the gap from Dunham brought Gonzalez home to tie the game at 1-1.

Wooster put up four unanswered runs in the top of the sixth to clinch the first half of the doubleheader. In game two, Sophie Stone earned the start for four strikeouts through 84 pitches.

The Yeowomen gave up three runs before getting on the board. In the bottom of the third, Alexis Croatt singled to right field to get on base before stealing third. The rookie made her way home after Wren Norris ground out to first, but the hot bats cooled thereafter. Wooster's seven more runs in the fourth and fifth ended the game via the run rule.
