Oberlin, Ohio - Announcing the newest member of the Oberlin College women's basketball coaching staff, Head Coach
Stephany Dunmyer has named
Abigail Yunker the Crimson and Gold's assistant coach.
"I am thrilled to welcome Abigail to Oberlin and our program! She is a connector, first and foremost— and a true competitor and winner." Dunmyer continues, "Her passion for the game, for the Division III experience, and for building relationships makes her a perfect fit for the Oberlin community. Abigail brings tremendous energy and work ethic, and she will be an outstanding coach and recruiter for our program!"
An Ohio native, Yunker is more than familiar with the North Coast, playing five years for the Wittenberg Tigers. An offensive threat on the court, Yunker started all but two games in her final three years. The guard averaged 9.1 points per game and helped lead the Tigers to the NCAC title game in three of their four tourney appearances.
Yunker capped her career with a nod on the 2022 NCAC All-Tournament team after leading the Tigers to a victory in the NCAC Championship. This marked Wittenberg's first conference tournament crown in six years.
Since graduating in 2022 with a degree in Biology, Yunker has played professional basketball for the Cardiff Met Archers in Super League Basketball. In one of the top basketball leagues in the United Kingdom, Yunker has continued to dominate the court, averaging 9.6 points per game, 3.5 assists per game, and 4.3 rebounds per game. Currently, Yunker leads the Met Archers in assists after finishing top-two in the previous season. Last season, Yunker finished top-eight in the league for steals.
Beyond her playing career, Yunker has served the last three years as both a Head Coach and Camp Director for U18 basketball in the Cardiff area.
"I am thrilled to be joining the Oberlin community and its basketball program." Yunker adds, "Oberlin creates an environment for their student-athletes to excel both on and off the court, and I am excited for the opportunity to be a part of it. This team shows great potential and the ability to compete with the top of a very competitive conference. I am especially looking forward to working alongside Coach Dunmyer, and I would like to thank her and the Oberlin athletic department for this incredible opportunity.
Fresh off completing her Master's of Science in Sport Coaching, Yunker is set to officially begin her coaching duties on June 1.
