Oberlin, Ohio – Sharp-shooter
Ellie Pollock-Ballard knocked down five three-pointers in the Oberlin College women's basketball contest against Adrian on Saturday afternoon. While Oberlin fell 66-48, the Crimson and Gold recognized faculty and staff during the game, as well as honor the life and memory of Morgan Rodgers through Morgan's Message.
Leading the team with 21 points, Pollock-Ballard shot 5-12 from behind the arch, while also pulling in five rebounds. Also in double-digits was
Katherine Csiszar with 11 points, six rebounds, and four steals.
Gabby Peña-Hilzen and
Krystal Montas also brought in six rebounds apiece, while combining for nine points. Montas contributed another five assists in the game.
Pollock-Ballard opened the contest with a triple, followed by Csiszar with another three-pointer. Montas scored a jumper from the paint as Oberlin was off to a hot start. The Bulldogs slowly crept back in to striking distance, cutting the lead to 15-13 at the end of the first quarter.
Adrian's Morgan Babb gave the Bulldogs the lead after opening the second period with a shot from behind the arc. Pollock-Ballard responded with Oberlin's next seven points, capped by a jumper from rookie
Summer Wish. Despite Pollock-Ballard's ten-point quarter, Oberlin faced a 33-27 deficit at the half.
As the contest thickened, the Crimson and Gold and the Bulldogs went point-for-point, tying the third period 13-13. Adrian rallied to begin the fourth quarter, scorching Oberlin with a 10-2 run. Facing a 14-point deficit, Oberlin fought back but their hot hands had faded and the Bulldogs closed out the game on top.
Moving to 4-5 on the season, Oberlin takes a two-week hiatus before they return to action at the Baldwin Wallace Classic on Monday, December 29. The quest to even their record begins against Case Western Reserve at 3 p.m.
