Csiszar, Kumler Dish Out Stellar Numbers in Road Victory Over Kalamazoo

Oberlin, Ohio – Senior leaders Katherine Csiszar and Angela Kumler headlined a phenomenal non-conference road test against Kalamazoo. The Wednesday night battle saw Oberlin win 58-52, with Kumler combining for nearly half of the team's points.

Csiszar, already playing some of the best ball in her career, recorded her second double-double  with 15 points and a career-high 17 rebounds. The forward added another six assists, four blocks, and two steals to her career night. Alongside her was Kumler with 12 points, seven steals, six assists, and four blocks, which is a season-best.

Oberlin dominated from the whistle, scoring six-straight points to start the game. Hitting eight field goals and a pair of three-pointers, the Yeowomen outscored the Hornets 20-4. Kalamazoo responded accordingly with 19 points in the second quarter, aided by a perfect 7-7 from the free throw line.

Up 28-23 to start the second half, Ellie Pollock-Ballard knocked down a three to revive Oberlin's offense. After Kalamazoo cut the lead to just a score, the two foes battled point-for-point. At the 1:27 mark, the Hornet's Ruby Hogan scored a layup off a turnover to give Kalamazoo their first lead of the night at 40-39. Csiszar tied the game 41-41 with free throws in the final seconds.

Kumler and Gabby Peña-Hilzen each scored layup, just keeping the Crimson and Gold ahead. Another triple from Pollock-Ballard extended the lead to 52-49 with 3:59 remaining. Tied again at 52-52 with 1:09 left, Krystal Montas and Kumler cashed in the final six points of the game to secure a 58-52 victory.

"I am proud of our team's continued resilience. Basketball is a game of momentum and runs, and we managed to respond and make big plays at key moments." Head Coach Stephany Dunmyer added of her star forward, "And Katherine was huge for us tonight - 15 points, 17 rebounds, six assists, and four blocks!"
