Oberlin, Ohio – Taking on a national-ranked foe from down the interstate, the Oberlin College women's basketball team duked it out against No. 9 Baldwin Wallace on Wednesday night. After leading through the first three quarters, the Yellowjackets surged to pull ahead and win the game 60-45.
Notching a twenty-piece for the sixth time in her career,
Angela Kumler dropped 20 points and a career-best eight steals.
Katherine Csiszar also finished in double-digits for the second-straight game, with 11 points and nine rebounds. The senior added another three blocks in the outing.
From the tip, Oberlin controlled the pace of the game, outscoring BW 15-8 in the first quarter.
Lily Najmulski started the scoring with a layup in the paint after back-to-back scoreless possessions from the two teams. The senior added another triple to get the Crimson and Gold firing.
Ellie Pollock-Ballard added another layup before the quarter closed with the Yeowomen up by seven.
The Yellowjackets responded right away with a three-pointer to start the frame. With their lead cut to two, Kumler launched an 8-0 run to give Oberlin their largest lead of the night. Baldwin Wallace added a pair of free throws before the break for a 28-20 halftime score.
Baldwin Wallace carried over their momentum for a massive third-quarter push. Scoring 22 points and hitting five threes, the Yellowjackets tied it up 42-42 for the final quarter. Rolling off their previous period, the visitors stalled Oberlin's hot offense and kept them to just three points. Unable to connect on shots, Oberlin fell 60-45 in the non-conference matchup.
The Crimson and Gold return to action next Tuesday, November 25 when they host Alma. Tip-off is set for 5 p.m.
