Oberlin Opens NCAC Play Against Wittenberg

Oberlin, Ohio – Opening their North Coast Athletic Conference season on Saturday afternoon, the Oberlin College women's soccer team hosted Wittenberg. Falling 4-1 to the Tigers, Oberlin moves to 3-5-3 on the season.

The lone goal came in the final four seconds of action when Meena Lee sprinted past her defense to prevent the shutout.

Wittenberg wasted no time getting on the board, scoring their first goal 2:16 into the match. The Crimson and Gold responded right away after Lexi Reynolds fired a shot towards goal. Saved by the Tigers' goalie, the Yeowomen remained off the board through their first offensive possession.

Midway through the half, Wittenberg struck again after Caroline Thomas found Sarah Deaton for the sophomore's second score of the match.

The Crimson and Gold continued to battle for possession in the second half. Lee took a shot towards cage at 66:59, but the Tigers' defense blocked the attempt. Picking up the ricochet, Wittenberg sprinted downfield and notched their third goal of the game.

Facing an uphill battle to get back in the game, Samantha Dormer rallied the Yeowomen with a streaking shot across cage, saved just barely by Wittenberg. Lee and Molly Button added another set of shots after Wittenberg scored again, but neither could convert as Oberlin fell behind 4-0.

Streaking downfield with just ten seconds left to play, Lee ripped a shot off at 89:56 to score Oberlin's lone goal of the match.

Oberlin returns to action next Saturday, October 11 when they head south to continued their NCAC season. The Crimson and Gold take on Denison at 1 p.m.
