Oberlin Wraps Up Fall Season at Ashland Invitational

Oberlin, Ohio - The Oberlin College men's tennis team wrapped up their fall season competing in the Ashland Invitational, hosted by Ashland on Saturday, then hosted in the Heisman Field House on Sunday due to the weather conditions. The invitational featured opponents from across the region, facing Ashland, Wooster, Baldwin Wallace, and Ohio Northern.

Opening singles play in Ashland, the Crimson and Gold delivered six wins. Shawn Lisann claimed a 7-6, 6-4 victory over Xander Jhaveri before cruising past Ashland 6-1, 6-1. Junior Zain Makada defeated Ohio Northern 7-6, 6-1, while first-year Dash Smith picked up a pair of wins over Ashland (6-3, 6-4) and Ohio Northern (6-2, 6-2). Cameron Weiss wrapped up his day clinching a 6-4, 6-0 victory over Ohio Northern. 

Leading into the second day, Oberlin's doubles pairs carried the momentum with strong performances across the lineup. The duo of Lisann and Smith defeated Ashland 6-2 before sweeping Baldwin Wallace 6-0 and collecting a victory over the team of Josh Davydov and Jhaveri 7-5. Ben Tichauer and Brady Huggett defeated Wooster 6-2 while also posting a 6-4 victory over Baldwin Wallace and a 6-2 win over a different Yellowjackets pair. 

The sophomore team of Oliver Knijnenburg and Max Brose earned a victory over Wooster 6-4 before winning a pair of tight matches against Ashland, 7-6 and 7-5. The duo of Makada and Sebastien Naginski secured a 6-4 victory over Wooster in their sole match of the day, while Weiss and Oliver Faranda teamed up to defeat Baldwin Wallace 6-3.

Classmates Rowan Ing and Christian Pak recorded a gritty 7-5 win over the Yellowjackets, while Lisann and Weiss cruised past Baldwin Wallace 6-2 to close out the weekend for Oberlin.

Concluding their fall season, the Yeomen will turn their attention to the spring when they travel to Allegheny on Saturday, February 7, at 9 a.m.
