Raleigh, NC – The Oberlin College softball team concluded its season-opening trip to North Carolina, falling to Pacific Luther 12-1 and Sunday New Paltz 10-1 in five innings.
While the outcomes weren't ideal for the Yeowomen, there were certainly signs of promise throughout the weekend.
Pacific Lutheran Recap
Senior
Alaina Di Dio and first-year
Samantha Pinedo each had two hits as Oberlin produced a season-high seven in the loss.
The Lutes jumped on Oberlin from the onset, using three hits, four walks, and an error to score six runs in the first inning.
The Yeowomen put two aboard in the first but left them stranded and Pacific Lutheran answered back with three more runs in the second inning.
Oberlin's lone run of the game would come in the fourth as Pinedo singled and would later come in to score on
Kailey Dunham's pinch-hit RBI single to the gap in left center.
Unfortunately, the game was never in doubt as the Lutes took advantage of seven walks and three hit batters to go along with their 10 hits.
New Paltz Recap
Hailey Alspach and Sydney Waldon were locked up in a pitcher's duel for the first three innings, but things would unravel in the fourth as the Hawks erupted for eight runs on seven hits, three walks, and an error in the inning.
Loren Carter would drive in the Yeowomen's lone run in the fourth inning on a groundout that allowed Alspach to score.
New Paltz added two more in the fifth to enforce the mercy rule.
Oberlin had six hits in the game with Di Dio, Dunham, Carter,
Mia Brito, Austin, and
Wren Norris each getting one.
Oberlin is back in action on Monday, March 18 as Bluffton comes to town for 3:30 p.m. doubleheader.
