Women's Basketball Secures Victory in a Gritty Showing at Wooster

Wooster, OH - The Oberlin College women's basketball team came away with a 51-41 road victory at the College of Wooster on Wednesday night. Oberlin improves to a 6-5 record in conference play and 15-7 overall ahead of a tough home matchup this weekend.

The Crimson and Gold will return home to host the DePauw Tigers this Saturday, February 10. Oberlin will celebrate Senior Day and honor their two seniors prior to tip-off at 2 p.m.

Oberlin saw two players score in double figures, led by Ellie Pollock-Ballard with 16 points. Krystal Montas stayed busy with an impressive stat line of 12 points, four assists, two steals, and two blocks. Nearly notching a double-double, Camille Zinaich added eight points, 13 rebounds, seven assists, three steals, and four blocks in the game.

The Yeowomen shared the ball well in Wednesday's game, racking up 20 assists on 22 made field goals. Zinaich's seven assists paced Oberlin, while the Crimson and Gold defense carried their half of the weight.

Holding Wooster to only 30.6 percent shooting from the field, Oberlin shutdown the Fighting Scots' leading scorer, Alyssa Chritz, to just 1-of-12 shooting and five points in the game.

How It Happened

Wooster flipped the script in the second period, outscoring Oberlin 16-9. Back-to-back three-pointers to close the half gave the Fighting Scots the 24-23 lead at the break.

The home team continued to increase its lead after halftime, building a 28-26 advantage before Oberlin went on a 14-0 run, punctuated by a buzzer-beater from Pollock-Ballard. Oberlin knocked down three three-pointers in the quarter to score nine of its 17 total points.

Oberlin started tacking on points in the fourth almost immediately, going on a 6-0 run, finished off by Montas' layup, to grow the lead to 46-28 with 4:59 to go in the contest. The Fighting Scots tried to cut into Oberlin's lead, but the Crimson and Gold cruised the rest of the way for the 51-41 win.
