Yeowomen Drown Muskies

Oberlin, Ohio – Picking up their fifth-straight win, the Oberlin College women's basketball team took down Muskingum on Sunday afternoon. A huge defensive presence in the second half gave the Yeowomen the 73-54 victory as they improve to 7-3 (1-0) on the season.
 
Oberlin's offense clicked from the start, led by Camille Zinaich with her fourth double-double this year. The senior tallied 18 points and ten rebounds, in additional to five assists and a pair of steals. Lily Najmulski and Ellie Pollock-Ballard were aces from behind the arc, each putting away a trio of three-pointers while combining for six rebounds.
 
Also finishing in double-digits was Angela Kumler with 12 points, six rebounds, six assists, and four blocks. Tying with Kumler for assists, Anora Lee dished out six of her own on top of seven points and two steals.
 
Najmulski set the tone from the opening possession, hitting a three-pointer to start the game. Kumler responded with a jumper in the paint as the Yeowomen quickly went up 5-0. At the 3:26 mark, the Muskies hit a triple of their own to claim an 7-6 lead. Another triple as the clock expired set the score at 14-12 in favor of the visitors.
 
Scoring the equalizer in the early minutes of the second period, Katherine Csiszar capitalized on a pass from Kumler. The fast-paced game quickly saw Muskingum ahead 30-24, but Pollock-Ballard came in clutch with consecutive three-pointers to tie the game.
 
Coming into the second half down 34-32, the Crimson and Gold wasted no time reclaiming their lead with seven-straight points again Muskingum. Converting free-throws, Oberlin extended their lead by as much as 14 before the end of the third period. The Crimson and Gold defense held the Muskies to 3-of-16 from the field and outscored them 21-7.
 
Oberlin's dominance continued to play out in the final quarter of action, as Zinaich and Kumler swapped buckets to give the Yeowomen a 17-point advantage. Krystal Montas and Csiszar added to the offensive explosion with another handful of points in the final minutes as the Yeowmen held strong for a 73-54 victory.
 
The squad takes a well-deserved break before they return to action next when they travel to Westerville, Ohio for the Smokey Ballenger Classic. Hosted by Otterbein, Oberlin will first play Hamilton College on Sunday, December 29 at 12 p.m.
