Wooster, Ohio- Pacing the NCAA DIII competition at the Wooster 5k Twilight,
Walter Moak and
Amber Borofsky of the Oberlin College men's and women's cross country teams led the Crimson and Gold to a fantastic finish ahead of the championship season.
Running the best 5k race of his career, Moak finished first overall as the only running below the 15-minute mark. At 14:55.7, Moak led the Yeomen to a near perfect race where all runners earned personal best times.
Jerry Achtermann came in next at 16:06.7, before first-year
Daniel Beyda crossed at 16:31.4. The tandem of
Liam Hogan (16:41.1) and
Grant Hirsch (16:44.9) checked in at 16th and 17th, respectively. Rounding out Oberlin's harriers, was Toby Wells-Spackman with a time of 17:55.1.
For the women's team Borofsky's PR of 18:43.3 earned her a third-place finish overall, only outrun by NCAA DI competition.
Charlotte Purcell came in second among DIII runners, checking in at fifth overall with a career-best time of 18:56.6.
Just on the other end of the 20-minute mark,
Samantha Soto notched a new best time of 20:24.6 to grab the 18th slot.
Marisa Tayal (21:04.8) and
Serafina Yan (23:20.9) finished shortly after, to cap off the Twilight meet.
The two teams take a short rest before a select number of athletes travel to Indianapolis to compete in the NCAA Great Lakes Regional Championships on Saturday, November 16.
