Delaware, OH - The Oberlin College track and field team continued competition on the second day of NCAC Championships at Ohio Wesleyan University. The men's team finished third of eight teams 118 points while the women's squad tallied 135.5 to finish three of seven.
Starting off with throws, junior Abby Cannon placed second in women's discus with a throw of 128-2 (39.07m). She continued her success in women's hammer with a personal-best toss of 164-05 (50.13m) to earn second-place finish in the event, only to be bested by her teammate senior Iyanna Lewis who took the conference crown with a throw of 166-10 (50.85m).Â
The jumps pit saw immense success today, with the Yeomen sweeping the podium in the men's triple jump. Senior Zack Lee (45-7.25 /13.90m), freshman Namu Makatiani (45-7 / 13.89m), and junior Jake Jarvis (44-6.25 / 13.57m) placed first, second, and third, respectively, all with electric performances. Lee was tabbed as the NCAC Field Athlete of the Year at the meet's conclusion.
Senior Chilly Wallace also saw success, taking second in the women's triple jump with a lifetime PR of 38-1.5 (11.62m).Â
Onto the track, sophomore Walter Moak placed second in the 1500-meters with a time of 3:56.32. The race after, fellow sophomore Sage Reddish finished first in the women's 1500m, running 4:37.04. They later returned to take second in the 800-meters with a time of 2:21.80. Makatiani racked up even more points by finishing third in the men's 110-meter hurdles in 15.24. In the men's 400-meter hurdles, sophomore Cole Fuller had a first place finish with a time of 55.28.
NCAC heptathlon champion, Hayden Hill, clocked in the at 1:07.68 400-meter hurdles to take third place.Â
Rounding out the meet, the men's 4x400 consisting of Simon Lowe, Fuller, Sam Fechner, and Kambi Obioha finished third with a time of 3:18.18.
While this is the end of the season for most of Oberlin College track and field, a select few athletes will compete at last chance meets throughout May in order to qualify for the NCAA DIII Championship Meet.Â
