Baseball Falls to Heidelberg

Oberlin, Ohio - The Oberlin College baseball team left 14 men on base, allowing the visiting Heidelberg University Student Princess to hang on for a 4-2 victory at Dill Field on Thursday afternoon.

The Yeomen have now dropped nine in a row, falling back to 9-19 on the year.

The Berg took the lead in the third inning, plating three runs in the frame on a two-run home run by Adam McViker and a Garrett Labeau RBI single.

Oberlin would get one back in the bottom of the third as sophomore Jake Blozy roped a single into right field to score rookie catcher Anton Shelton

The Yeomen would load the bases in the fourth but would get nothing to show for it as Heidelberg starter Nicholas Lavelle was able to work around three walks in the inning.

Aidan Corrigan led off the fifth with a home run to extend the visitor's cushion out to 4-1.

The Yeomen would cut the lead in half in the sixth as Shelton pelted an RBI single to right field but they would leave two men stranded in scoring position.

Oberlin would load the bases again in the seventh and the trend would continue as the Yeomen did not score.

Thompson (0-3) worked the front five innings on the bump, allowing eight hits to go along with two strikeouts and three walks.

The Yeomen bullpen was impressive as Andrew Shen and Zachary Ritts combined for four scoreless innings and five strikeouts.

Oberlin finished with nine hits, headlined by Blozy who was 3-for-4 with a triple. Yianni Gardner also added a pair of hits in the loss.

The Yeomen are back in action on Saturday at Wabash College. First pitch of the doubleheader is set for 12 p.m.
