Scots Take Two from Yeomen in NCAC Opener

Oberlin, Ohio - The Oberlin College baseball team dropped both ends of its conference-opening doubleheader against the visiting College of Wooster Fighting Scots, falling 12-2 in seven innings before dropping the nightcap 12-5.

Vince Dolcemaschio and Corey Knauf were locked up in a pitcher's duel through the front four innings of game one but the Scots offense came to life in the fifth and scored 12 runs over the next three innings.

The first three Wooster hitters would reach base to start the fifth and a one-out bases loaded walk to Dane Camphausen plated the game's first run. Dean Brown would follow with an RBI single and a costly Oberlin error allowed two more runs to come across.

The Yeomen would get a single tally back in the bottom of the frame as Joe Strabley beat out an infield single to third to score John Schooner

Unfortunately, the Yeomen bullpen was unable to slow down the Wooster lineup, scoring eight runs over the next two innings to leave no doubt in the eventual outcome.

Oberlin would get one more run in the seventh as Jake Blozy extended his hitting streak to 13 with an RBI single to right.

Dolcemaschio (1-2) worked the front five innings, allowing four runs (two earned) on six hits and five walks to go along with five strikeouts.

Schooner and Strabley each had two hits, accounting for four of the Yeomen's seven in the game.

In the nightcap Colin Leslie's two-run triple staked the Scots to an early 2-0 lead in the top of the second. A costly two-out error by the Yeomen in the fourth extended what should have been a 1-2-3 inning, but instead Wooster took advantage of the miscue to score another pair of runs to make it a 4-0.

The Yeomen would get one back in the home half of the fourth on an RBI groundout by Max Cairo

A two-out two-run double by Ryan Kramer in the sixth increased the Wooster cushion out to five at 6-1 but Oberlin would get one back on one swing of the bat as Max Anastasio belted a towering solo home run over the wall in left center for his second round-tripper of the year.

Unfortunately, Wooster would break the game open with four runs in the seventh before adding single tallies in the eighth and ninth but Oberlin continued to fight till the bitter end.

The Yeomen posted a pair in the eighth as Strabley roped a run-producing line drive single down the left field line before Blozy lifted a sac fly to center. Oberlin would get one more in the ninth as Dolcemaschio, who had two of the team's eight hits, recorded his first-career RBI with a single to left.

Justin Fuls (0-1) struckout seven but lasted just 3.2 innings after giving up three hits and four walks over 95 pitches of work.

The sweep dropped Oberlin back to 6-8 overall and 0-2 in the NCAC. Wooster had come in on a five-game losing streak but now sits at 7-10 overall and 2-0 in league play.

The Yeomen are back in action on Tuesday at Hiram College. First pitch of the double-dip is set for high noon.
