Gators Bite Yeomen Twice

Oberlin, Ohio – The Oberlin College baseball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader to the visiting Allegheny College Gators, falling 14-8 and 13-3 (7 innings) on Thursday afternoon at Dill Field.

The sweep by the Gators dropped the Yeomen to 5-13 and 1-3 in the NCAC.

The Yeomen trailed 4-0 in game one before getting on the board in the third on a two-out RBI single by Jake Freed. It was later 7-1 but the Yeomen got a pair in the fifth on an Allegheny error and John Schooner single to the gap in right center to trim the margin down to four.

Unfortunately, Allegheny responded with a six-run sixth to break the game wide open and claim a 13-3 lead.

The Yeomen tried to chip away at the deficit, getting three runs in the seventh as Jake Blozy belted an RBI double to the gap in right center before Max Cairo followed with a sac fly. Max Anastasio capped the Yeomen's scoring with a run-scoring single through the left side to plate Blozy but the final outcome was never in doubt.

Blozy finished 3-for-5 while Anastasio, Jacob Thompson, John Schooner each had two hits for the Yeomen.

Justin Fuls (1-2) got the start on the bump, lasting 3.2 innings as he allowed four runs (three earned) on five hits, three walks, and three strikeouts.

In the second game the Yeomen mustered just three hits as the Gators pounded out 14 in the run-rule victory.

It was 3-2 after the first but Oberlin's bats went cold the rest of the way.

Brett Heckert roped a three-run homer over the wall in left in the top of the first but the Yeomen would get two back on an Allegheny error and sac fly from Anastasio.

The Gators would erupt for five runs in the third and five more in the sixth to finish off the victory.

Oberlin's only other run of the game came on a solo homer by Anastasio in the third.

Thompson lasted just 2.2 innings on the mound and was tagged with eight runs in the loss.

The Yeomen are back in action on Saturday at DePauw.
