Oberlin, Ohio - The Oberlin College men's tennis team entered as the No. 3 seed in East Division of the North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament and fell in the opening to DePauw, 5-2, who was seeded second in the West Division.
Oberlin carried a 2-1 lead into singles play but didn't have enough firepower to hold off the Tigers. James Dill and Grant North were 8-4 winners over Wyatt Metzger and Thomas Partridge in the top doubles position. At No. 2 the Yeomen also prevailed by an 8-4 count as Sean Billerbeck and Rohan Gold got the best of Cole Metzger and Ryan McCook.
Unfortunately, things didn't go Oberlin's way in the race to five points. Partridge made short work of Billerbeck at No. 1 with matching 6-1 victories, while R. McCook set aside Sebastien Naginski 6-1, 6-1, at No. 5. After Jacob Watson dispatched North 6-1, 6-0 at No. 6, the match would conclude at the third flight as C. Metzger was victorious over Dill, 6-4, 6-2.
The Yeomen will now take on Wittenberg tomorrow to determine the fifth and sixth place.
