Oberlin, Ohio - The Oberlin College softball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader to the visiting Hiram College Terriers, falling 9-1 in five innings before dropping a 5-4 decision in the nightcap.
Darian Kanno was simply sensational inside the circle for the Terriers as she carried a no-hitter into the fifth of game one until
Mia Brito's baltimore chop base hit plated the Yeowomen's lone run of the game. Kanno, who earned NCAC Pitcher of the Week honors last week, struckout six and walked two in the game-one win.Â
Hiram scored one in the first and then broke the game open with three in the fourth and five in the fifth to finish off game one.Â
Game two was much more closely contested as the two foes traded a pair of runs in the top of the first with the Oberlin deuce coming on an RBI single by
Cat Moruzzi and squeeze bunt from
Kathryn Beeman.Â
The Yeowomen would add on two more runs in the bottom of the second on one swing of the bat as Brito lifted a two-run home run over the wall in right field to make it 4-2 and chase Jeskari Rodriguez from the game.Â
Unfortunately, Kanno returned to the rubber and blanked the Yeowomen over the final five frames, allowing just four hits while fanning eight.Â
Hiram would push one across in the third and take the eventual lead in the sixth as Abriana Schwartz came through with a clutch two-run double in the sixth to put Hiram out in front.Â
Oberlin put two aboard with two outs in the seventh but Kanno slammed the door to complete the sweep of the Yeowomen.Â
Oberlin is back in action on Friday at Heidelberg.
