Oberlin, OH- The Oberlin softball team dropped a pair of games against NCAC opponent Ohio Wesleyan on Friday night. Losing a very long game one 6-3 gave little time for the Yeowomen to play a game two. Due to lack of daylight, the second game was ended after five innings with the Crimson and Gold on the losing side of a 5-2 score. With the losses, Oberlin moves to 7-17-1 overall and earn a 1-7 record in the NCAC.
Â
Katie Austin and
Alaina Di Dio split an equal three innings on the mound with the latter Obie getting the start. The duo combined for five strike outs, while Di Dio help the Bishops to one run in the late three innings.
Â
It was all Ohio Wesleyan for the majority of the game as Oberlin struggled to bring anyone on base home for a score. The Yeowomen were down 6-0 until the sixth inning when OWU made a trio of errors, giving Oberlin all their three runs. The home team tallied ten hits in the first game to go along with the three unearned runs.
Â
Earning her second career start on the mound,
Calliope Lissak threw a strong opening inning, putting the Battling Bishops away 1-2-3. The first-year hurler earned another pair of strikeouts in 16 at-bats before
Liz Laudicina stepped in the circle for the final inning.
Â
After struggling to get a hit in the first game,
Loren Carter came out swinging with a double to left field to bring
Haley Bartsch home in the third inning. A couple innings of back-and-forth runs, the Yeowomen defense tried to rally in the fifth inning with waning daylight. After giving up a score on a pass-ball, OWU added another pair of runs to finish their half of the fifth inning, up 5-2. With four hits already on the day,
Cat Moruzzi added another to get on base with Carter up to bat. The offense tried to catch wind but came up short as they ultimately fell 5-2 to Ohio Wesleyan in the shorted game.

The Yeowomen look to get back on track as they travel to Allegheny tomorrow, April 16 for their next doubleheader. First pitch is set for 2pm with the second game slated for 4pm. A live stream available
