Oberlin, Ohio – The visiting John Carroll University Blue Streaks scored 10 runs over the final four innings to earn a 12-2 win over the Oberlin College baseball team on Tuesday afternoon.
It was a 2-2 game heading into the sixth inning but the Blue Streaks roughed up the Yeomen bullpen for six runs in the inning and would tack on four more over the next two frames to leave no doubt in the outcome.
Junior right hander
Jacob Thompson departed with the game tied after five innings of work on the bump, allowing just the two runs on five hits and five walks to go along with three strike outs.
Ben Surman's single back up the box plated the game's first run in the top of the first inning but Oberlin would eventually even the count in the home half of third as
Yianni Gardner laced a two-out RBI single into left field to score
Nicolas Rosa-Palermo and extend his on-base streak to 10 games in the process.
JCU would reclaim the lead in the top part of the fourth as Landen Glaser curled a towering home run inside the left field foul pole but
Jay Aghanya got that run right back with a two-out RBI triple to the gap in right center that sent
Max Cairo across the dish. It was the first-career three-base hit for Aghanya. Unfortunately, the Yeomen would muster just two hits the rest of the way.
Blue Streaks starter Jon Ambro was impressive through six innings, fanning six Yeomen and sprinkling five hits while walking just one as he moved to 1-2 on the year.
Oberlin had six hits in the game while the Blue Streaks finished with 14 to accompany their 11 free bases on 10 walks and a hit batter.
The loss marked the fourth straight for the Yeomen as they fell back to 4-7 while JCU moved to 5-9.
These same two teams will run it back on Thursday afternoon at 4 p.m.
