Meadville, PA – A huge fourth quarter push lifted the Oberlin women's basketball team over Allegheny College on Wednesday night. The 63-48 victory marks the 19th win for the Yeowomen this season. It breaks the regular season win record for the program set back in 2017-18 when the team won 18 games in the regular season before winning another three in the conference tournament. Oberlin moves to 19-3 on the season and 12-3 in NCAC action.
The Yeowomen got the first couple points of the opening quarter, as
Bryana Woodard and
Rowan Smith got layups in the paint. Wooster responded with buckets of their own but a three-pointer from
Gina Lombard set the Crimson and Gold ahead of the home team by five. A fast-break in the final seconds of action made it a one-possession game with the Yeowomen up 13-10.
Oberlin began the second quarter exactly how they started the first with layup from Woodard and Smith. Lombard kept the ball rolling with a quick layup followed by a good shot from behind the arc. Up by just one in the final minute,
Kendal McCall drove for a layup to give the Yeowomen a 25-22 lead at the half.
Coming out of the half, the Gators put together a 6-2 run before
Alyson Jefferson made a three-point play to put the Yeowomen back on top. Allegheny tied the game seconds later, and the two teams battled back-and-forth for the lead, but Oberlin got the advantage before the final second as
Camille Zinaich went 3-4 from the charity stripe.
Up 39-38, the Yeowomen brought the momentum into the fourth quarter as they scored the first nine points of the period. Now with a ten-point advantage, the Crimson and Gold took off, scoring a trio of buckets and earning a plethora of fouls in the final minutes. Oberlin finished the game on a 9-2 run to earn the 63-48 victory.
For their final game of the regular season, the Yeowomen bring it back home and play host to the Fighting Scots on Saturday, February 19. The weekend game begins at 2pm with live stream available
