Track & Field Opens Season at Case Western

Cleveland, Ohio – The Oberlin College track and field teams opened their respective indoor seasons on Saturday afternoon at the ninth-annual Case Western Reserve Holiday Classic.
 
In the opening field events, senior Iyanna Lewis wasted no time in resetting her own school record in the weight throw with a launch of 61-05.00 to edge her mark of 60-08.00 that she set last year at nationals.
 
Abby Cannon, who was third in the weight throw (48-10.75), posted a mark of 34-10.75 in the shot put to place sixth, while Lewis was ninth with a throw of 33-04.00.
 
Senior Chilly Wallace started off her season strong with a winning mark of 36-00.75 in the triple jump to best a field of 14 and later returned to win the 60-meter hurdles in 9.37.
 
First-year Anna Fritz also impressed in her collegiate debut as she topped the field of 16 in the long jump with a winning leap of 16-11.25.

Hayden Hill tied for second in the high jump with a clearance of 4-11.00.
 
Isaiah Schuham-Anders turned in a fifth-place effort in the weight throw with a toss of 44-10.75.
 
Oberlin had three of the top five finishes in the men's triple with Zack Lee taking second at 44-05.25 and freshman Namu Makatiani placing third in 44-02.00. Jarvis Jarvis completed the trio in fifth place at 42-09.50.
 
In her first collegiate race, rookie Celica Vaughn took third in the 500-meters in 1:30.39, while Kambinachi Obioha won the men's side of the event in 1:07.88.
 
The meet closed with the Yeomen taking third in the 4x400 relay as the grouping of Jon Dromlewicz, Dhylan MacLaren, Obioha, and Amar Rajani-Bangser clocked in at 3:38.06.
 
Oberlin track and field will be back in action on Friday at the Tiffin University Alumni Open.
