Oberlin, Ohio – The Oberlin College men's tennis team closed out its shortened five-date season, dropping a 7-2 decision to The College of Wooster Fighting Scots on Saturday afternoon.
The Yeomen's top doubles pairing of
Elliot Nuss and
Sean Billerbeck secured one of Oberlin's team points as they knocked off Joaquin Abos Amo and Austin Hanna by an 8-5 count. However, they went into singles play trailing 2-1 as
Sam Topper and
Rohan Gold were set aside 8-5 at No. 2 while
James Dill and
Ben Echikson were dispatched 8-4 in the third flight.
Topper provided the lone singles victory for the Yeomen as he bested Alex Drewes 6-1, 6-3 in the third position.
Nuss concluded his collegiate career, dropping a three-set affair against Abos Amo in the lead flight. After falling 6-3 in the first, Nuss took the second 7-5 before once again being defeated 6-3.
The No. 6 flight also went the distance as Echikson took the first set over Nebyou Minassie but then fell 6-2 in the second before being edged out in a 7-6 (6-1) tiebreak loss.
Billerbeck and Hanna also went swing-for-swing but it was the Scots' rookie who got the best of the Yeomen sophomore 7-5, 6-4 at No. 2.
Oberlin concludes its season at 1-6 but will return in the fall to begin preparations for a full 2021-22 season.
