Oberlin, Ohio – The Oberlin College baseball team honored its three on-campus seniors prior to first pitch but the Yeomen didn't have much to celebrate after that as the visiting Case Western Reserve University Spartans came into Dill Field and left with wins of 9-3 and 15-1.
James Kibitel,
Kotaro Kajita, and
Lawrence Hamilton were recognized for their dedication to the team over the last four years but it was freshman
Jake Freed who continued to impress the most at the plate as he went 4-for-7 with two triples, two runs scored, and an RBI on the day.
Joe Strabley, Hamilton,
John Schooner, and
Jay Aghanya also had two hits apiece for the Yeomen.
However, it was the Yeomen pitching that continued their struggles as they surrendered 26 hits and 24 runs while walking 15 and hitting six batters over the 16 innings of action.
In game one the Spartans posted eight runs over the first three innings and never looked back. Oberlin scratch across its first run in the bottom of the seventh on a Spartans' error and would get two in the ninth on an RBI single back up by the box by Aghanya and double play groundout by Schooner.
The Spartans would pick up right where they left off in game two, sending 15 men to the plate and scoring nine runs in the top of the first. Case would later add one in the third, two in the fifth, and three in the seventh.
Oberlin's lone run of the game would come in the fifth as Freed plated Strabley with an RBI triple to the gap in right center.
The extremely shorthanded Yeomen dropped to 1-5 on the year, while the Spartans improved to 12-6.
The Yeomen's next scheduled doubleheader is Sunday, April 25 at home against Penn State-Behrend but be sure to check
