Yeowomen Use a Big Third Quarter to Down Hiram

Hiram, Ohio – The Oberlin College women's basketball team led by just two at the break but outscored the Hiram College Terriers by 22 points in the third quarter en route to a 71-47 victory on Saturday afternoon at Price Gymnasium.

Gina Lombard posted her fifth double-digit performance of the season, cashing in a career-high six 3-pointers on 10 attempts as she netted a game-high 22 points. First-year
Bryana Woodard added 15 points on an efficient 7-of-12 shooting, while
Alyson Jefferson chipped in 10 points in the win.
Camille Zinaich nearly missed out on her second double-double of the season, finishing with nine points and nine rebounds to accompany her six assists.
After a week off, the Yeowomen had their lowest-scoring quarter of the season in the opening 10-minute session but trailed by just three at 11-8 when it was all said and done. The Terriers extend their lead out to 16-10 in the early portion of the second quarter but eight straight points from Lombard put the Yeowomen out in front 20-18 with 3:52 left in the half before carrying a slim 24-22 advantage into the intermission.
After Hiram quickly tied the game to open the third period, the Yeowomen responded with a 12-0 burst that featured a pair of triple-hits from Lombard and two paint finishes from Woodard to make it a 36-24 Oberlin lead. A Madison Branch jumper got the Terriers back to within six, 36-30, but the Yeowomen closed out the final four minutes of the session with an 18-0 scoring barrage to balloon its lead to 54-30 after outscoring the Terriers 30-8 in the quarter.
With the outcome no longer in doubt, the two foes played out the string with each side scoring 17 points in the final quarter with Oberlin's first-year center
Alira Allen netting a career-high five points in the frame.
The Yeowomen shot 43.1 percent (28-of-65) from the floor while holding the Terriers to just a 29 percent (18-of-62) clip. OC also won the battle of the boards 44-38, which included 12 on the offensive end as Oberlin had 20 second-chance points compared to Hiram's five. The Yeowomen also doubled-up Hiram in paint points at 40-20.
Oberlin's school-record start extends to 7-0 while picking up their second NCAC win of the year. Hiram fell back to 3-6 and 0-2 in league play.
The Yeowomen return home to host Ohio Wesleyan University on Wednesday night at 7 p.m.
