Track & Field Indoor All-Americans

Voit, Jung-Beeman, and McClain Tabbed as Indoor All-Americans

New Orleans – Under normal policies, All-America status is earned by finishing within the top eight places of an event at the NCAA Championship meet. However, these are not normal times so the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) has made the decision to declare all initially announced national qualifiers as All-Americans.

A total of 675 athletes from 161 different institutions were honored on Tuesday, which includes Oberlin College athletes Sarah Voit, Oona Jung-Beeman, and Naeisha McClain. The trio was already onsite at the JDL Fast Track in Winston Salem, North Carolina, when the NCAA Indoor Championship was abruptly canceled due to COVID-19.

Voit, a sophomore from Cincinnati, Ohio, entered the meet as the No. 5 seed with a school-record mark of 12-08.25 (3.87m) in the pole vault.

Jung-Beeman's school-record and national-qualifying time of 2:15.54 in the 800 was fourth-best in the Great Lakes Region and 19th in the nation.

McClain's season-best heave of 45-01.50 (13.75m) in the shot put was second in the region and 14th in the country.

Senior Marija Crook was also invited to the national meet as an alternate in the mile but unfortunately does not qualify for All-America status per the USTFCCCA ruling.

All four athletes were honored at the 2020 Virtual Obie Awards that took place this past Sunday.
