Sewanee, TN – The Oberlin College women's lacrosse team trailed 9-3 at the half and were unable to cut into the deficit in the second stanza as the Roanoke College Maroons ran away with a 20-7 victory on Sunday afternoon.
Tess Siciliano recorded her third straight hat trick to start the season while
Annie Payne added a pair of markers to lead the Oberlin attack.
Roanoke took an early 2-0 lead in the first 2:30 of play but Oberlin responded quickly with unassisted goals by Payne and
Leah Crowther to knot the score back up at 2-2 just over three minutes into the contest.
The Maroons countered with seven of the next eight goals as they headed to the break up 9-3.
Roanoke extended the advantage out to eight, 11-3, early in the second before Siciliano stopped the run off a pass from
Kyra Aviles. Siciliano would add an unassisted tally a few minutes later but the Yeowomen still trailed 12-5 with 23:31 left to play.
Four straight goals from the Maroons blew the game open as they led 16-5 before another Siciliano marker briefly halted the momentum at 16-6 with 10:00 remaining in the contest.
The game belonged to Roanoke as it scored four of the final five goals of the match on its way to a 20-7 win.
The Maroons held sizable advantages in shots (38-26) and ground balls (20-13) while successfully clearing 19-of-24 attempts.
The Yeowomen return home on Wednesday, March 4 for a 5:00 p.m. match versus Baldwin Wallace at Dick Bailey Field.
