Hilton Head, South Carolina — The Oberlin College men's tennis team held on to beat the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, 5-4, putting a bow on the team's spring break trip.
The Yeomen took the top two flights in three tightly contested doubles match ups.
Stephen Gruppuso and
Camron Cohen took the top flight, 8-6, with
James Dill and
Elliot Nuss defeating Ryan Mitchell and Brandon Dechter at No. 2 by the same count.
Gruppusso and Vaughn won the top two flights to give the Yeomen four match points. Gruppuso defeated the Jimmy Engelhart, 6-2, 6-3, while Vaughn cruised to a 6-1, 6-0, win over Mitchell.
The Warhawks were victorious at No. 3, 4 and 5 to even the match, but
Sam Topper would secure the victory in the sixth flight. The Irvine, California native defeated Noah Guillermo 6-0, 6-4 to put the match in the win column.
The victory gets the Yeomen to 5-8 on the year as they finished their trip with a 3-1 record.
The team will head back to Oberlin and begin preparing for conference play, which will start on April 6 at Denison University.
