Yeomen Falter Against BW

Oberlin, Ohio – The Oberlin College baseball team dropped its fourth straight game, falling 8-1 at Dill Field on Tuesday afternoon to the visiting Baldwin Wallace University Yellow Jackets.

Sophomore Lawrence Hamilton had three of the Yeomen's eight hits as he went 3-for-4 with a stolen base. The Largo, Florida, native has hit safely in all six games this season and has three multi-hit performances on the young campaign.

The game was evenly contested outside of the six-run fourth that the Yellow Jackets put up. However, the Yeomen relief corps had arguably their best performance of the season as David Gaetano, Ian Dinsmore, Nick Dawkins, and Ian Ashby each worked a scoreless inning as they allowed just two BW hits over the final four innings of the game.

Sophomore Kotaro Kajita made his first appearance of the season and was saddled with the loss as he got touched up for five runs on seven hits and three walks over the front three innings. Senior Musa Matiwane also suffered some tough luck in his two innings of action as he was tagged for three runs on four hits.

The Yellow Jackets plated a pair off of Kajita in the first inning as Asa Adams led off the game with a triple before coming in to score on a ground out. First baseman Philips Wells also had an RBI single in the opening frame.

Oberlin's lone run of the game came in the home half of the first as Brendan Mapes walked and went from first to third on an opposite-field single to right by Hamilton. Mapes would ultimately come across on a wild pitch.

The Yeomen could never get a rally going the rest of the way but did threaten a few times as they left 10 men on base in the ball game.

The outcome was ultimately decided in the fourth when the Yellow Jackets erupted for six runs on seven hits to break the game open.

Mapes and Jacob Thompson each had hits for the Yeomen to extend their season-opening hitting streaks to six. However, rookie David Fineman saw his five-game hit streak come to an end.

The loss dropped the Yeomen back to 2-4 on the year while BW has now won five in a row to move to 8-5.

The Yeomen are back in action on Saturday in Tucson, Arizona, as they open up their eight-game spring break trip against Concordia University (WI). First pitch of game one is set for 10 AM MST / 1:00 PM EDT. Fans will be able to follow the action via live statistics on goyeo.com/stream.
