Yeowomen Drop Regular-Season Finale at Wittenberg

Springfield, Ohio – The Oberlin College women's basketball team fell to the Wittenberg University Tigers, 60-48, on Saturday afternoon at Pam Evans Smith Arena.

The Yeowomen struggled to score throughout the contest, hitting on just 33.3 percent of their shots with 19 makes on 57 attempts, which included a 3-of-21 (14.3%) showing from beyond the arc. Leo Ross was the lone Yeowoman starter in double figures as they posted 10 points, while junior Jasmine Sorrells added 10 tallies of her own off the bench on a perfect 5-of-5 shooting.

In a tightly contested first quarter it was the Yeowomen who ended on top 12-10. Layups by Cheyenne Arthur and Sorrells early in the second period gave Oberlin a 16-12 edge but the Tigers would take over from there, using an 11-0 run over the next 4:40 to build up a 23-6 lead. Oberlin's scoring drought would finally end on a Alex Stipano 3-pointer with just under two minutes to go but the Tigers would finish the session strong to carry a 27-19 lead into the locker room as they outscored Oberlin 17-7 in the quarter.

The Yeowomen crawled their way back into the game in the third quarter, opening the session with an 11-3 run to tie the game at 30-30 with 3:14 left to play in the period. The burst featured seven points from Ross along the way. Unfortunately, the Tigers were able to reclaim the momentum as they took a 40-34 cushion into the fourth quarter.

The Tigers' built the margin out to 10 midway through the fourth quarter and Oberlin was unable to put together a run as the final outcome was never in jeopardy.

Wittenberg's Delaney Williams led a foursome of Tigers in double figures with a game-high 13 points. As a team the Tigers shot 42 percent (21-of-50) and out-rebounded the Yeowomen 38-33.

The loss dropped the Yeowomen back to 10-6 in the NCAC and they will enter the league tournament as the No. 5 seed and head right back to Springfield on Tuesday night for a rematch against the fourth-seeded Tigers who moved to 11-5. Each team defended their own home floor in the two regular season meetings.
