Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Yeowomen Get Tripped Up by John Carroll

Columbus, Ohio – The Oberlin College women's basketball team took to the court for the first time in 17 days and failed to find any offensive rhythm as the John Carroll University Blue Steaks defeated the Yeowomen, 66-33, on day one of the Marriott Columbus Airport Holiday Tournament on the campus of Capital University.

Eight Yeowomen scored in the game but no player reached double figures as seniors Cheyenne Arthur and Jasmine Sorrells led the way with eight points each with Sorrells also adding a team-high seven rebounds.

The Yeowomen played from behind from the onset as they mustered just four first-quarter points while the Blue Streaks poured in 22 points in the opening 10-minute session.

The game was relatively even through the middle part as each team posted 11 points in the second but Oberlin still went into the intermission down 33-15.

Oberlin trailed by as many as 26 midway through the third quarter but would close the period on a mini 8-2 spurt that featured four points from Sorrells, including a buzzer-beating put-back layup to make it 45-25.

While the final outcome was never in doubt in the fourth quarter, the Yeowomen continued to play hard until the final whistle.

The victory marked the sixth straight for the Blue Streaks as they ran their record to 8-1 while the Yeowomen dropped back to 3-6. Oliva Nagy guided the victors with 19 points while Dani Carlson chipped in 16 for JCU.

Oberlin returns to action tomorrow afternoon against the host Crusaders of Capital. Tip-time is set for 3:00 p.m.
