Yeowomen Win Fourth Straight at Kenyon

Gambier, Ohio — The Oberlin College women's basketball team earned a commanding wire-to-wire 67-45 victory over the Kenyon College Ladies Wednesday evening to sweep the season series for the first time since 2014-15.

The victory is Oberlin's fourth straight and six of its last seven games, running their record to 6-3 in conference and 11-7 overall. Kenyon falls to 6-5 in the NCAC standings and 12-7 overall.

Alex Stipano led the three Oberlin players in double figures with a season-high 21 points. The Alexandria, Virginia, product knocked down 5-of-6 from three and shot 72.7 percent from the field. Stipano's back court partner Cheyenne Arthur added 14 points, and Olivia Canning cashed in 11 points to go along with her game-high eight rebounds.

In a fast paced first period, the Yeowomen could not have asked for a better start building an 11-4 lead when Stipano knocked down a jumper at the four-minute mark. Despite the deficit the Ladies went on to score seven of the final nine points of the quarter to cut the Oberlin advantage to 13-11 before the first period horn.

The Yeowomen blew the game open in the second stanza, outscoring Kenyon 26-11 in the period to take a 39-22 lead into the locker room at halftime. The Yeowomen shot an impressive 51.9 percent (14-of-27) in the opening half, led by Stipano who scored 13 first half points.

In the second half, the Yeowomen ran away with the game and earned its largest lead of the night when Arthur knocked down one of her three treys, leaving not doubt in the outcome with 9:17 left in the game.

On the final stat sheet, Oberlin finished the game shooting 57.1 percent (8-of-14) from beyond the arc, and 50 percent (23-of-46) from the field. The Yeowomen also out rebounded the Ladies 41-39. Kenyon struggled offensively, shooting just 23.4 percent, and knocking down just three of its 20 three-point attempts.

The Yeowomen will look to keep its win streak alive on Saturday when they host the No. 16-nationally ranked DePauw University Tigers. The opening tip is set for 1 p.m.
