Colorado Springs, CO — The Oberlin College women's lacrosse team ended its two game skid with a commanding, 18-7, victory over Hamline University on the campus of Colorado College Wednesday afternoon.
Oberlin struck first as
Tess Siciliano buried a goal less than a minute into the first half. Hamline answered the early Yeowomen goal with a three of its own, to make it 3-1 with 25:28 left in the opening half.
The rest of the half was all Yeowomen as they scored the next 11 goals, while holding the Pipers scoreless to take a 12-3 lead into the break.
Natalie Rauchle led the Oberlin offensive surge with four goals and two assists in the 11-goal run.
Oberlin ballooned its lead out to 18-5 as they outscored Hamline 6-2 in the beginning of the second half, which was capped off by an unassisted Rauchle goal. With the clock running and the game ultimately deciding the Pipers closed out the scoring with two goals in the final four minutes of play.
The team's leader in goals in Rauchle finished the game with five goals, a season-high three assists and 10 draw controls. The midfielder brings her season goal total to 25 just five games into her senior campaign.
Along with Rachle, rookie Siciliano netted a collegiate-best four goals for her first career hat trick. Sophomore midfielder
Eliza Amber also tacked on three more tallies, bringing her season total to 10.
On the defensive end of the field, eight different Yeowomen caused turnovers in the game led by junior midfielder
Hayley Drapkin who contributed two.
Oberlin goes to 3-2 on the year, while Hamline falls to 2-4.
The Yeowomen will open conference play on Saturday when they welcome the Wittenberg University Tigers to Austin E. Knowlton Athletic Complex. The opening draw is scheduled for 11 a.m. with a men's game to follow at 2 p.m.
