Tucson, AZ – The Oberlin College baseball team turned in a lackluster performance, dropping both ends of a doubleheader to Carleton College by the scores of 9-3 and 12-1.
Oberlin was out-hit 26-9 in the twin bill and committed six errors on the day as it fell back to 4-10 overall.
Game one was tied 3-3 heading into the home half of the fifth, but things went wayward from there for the Yeomen as the Knights used four hits and two Oberlin errors to score five runs in the inning.
After scoring the game's first run on a throwing error in the second, Oberlin loaded the bases with nobody out in the third inning but settled for just two runs which came on a seeing-eye single by
Jack McGowan and an opposite field line drive by
Amari Newman. However, the next three Yeomen hitters were retired in order to short-circuit the threat.
The Knights got three runs in the second and before adding on six more over the final two innings of the game.
Milo Sklar led the Yeomen with two hits in the setback.
Knights' soft-tossing sidearm reliever Ben Frerichs earned the win as he allowed just one hit over four scoreless innings of work.
Maxx McGee accounted for two of Oberlin's four hits in game two.
Andrew Sugarman drove in the Yeomen's lone run with a single in the seventh to plate
Brennen Ryan.
The Knights scored at least one run in six of the seven innings as they cruised to victory.
Oberlin will conclude its trip tomorrow morning with games against Wesleyan (9:00 AM MST) and Wisconsin-Superior (12:30 PM MST).
