Westerville, Ohio – The Oberlin College women's lacrosse team moved to 2-0 with a commanding 20-7 victory at Otterbein University on Friday evening.
Nine Yeowomen got into the scoring act led by six goals from senior
Natalie Rauchle to run her opening-week total to 13.
Leah Crowther and
Ali Wessel each cashed in three goals, while
Sydney Garvis and
Sabrina Deleonibus netted two goals apiece in the win.
Hayley Drapkin dished out three assists to accompany a goal as well.
The Cardinals netted the game's first two goals, but Oberlin settled in and responded in a big way with eight straight points. Garvis got the Yeowomen on the board and Rauchle went on to deposit three in a row to make it a 4-2 Oberlin lead at the 14:25 mark.
Deleonibus continued the barrage with her first-career goal and the Yeowomen offense would continue to add three more scores before Otterbein got on the board again. Rauchle,
Kyra Aviles, and
Tess Siciliano all scored within 32 seconds of one another to balloon the lead out to 8-2.
Following the Otterbein goal from Abby Smoot, the Yeowomen would close out the opening half by posting six more tallies to carry a 14-3 advantage into the intermission. The run featured goals from first-years
Ali Wessel and
Leah Crowther, while
Eliza Amber and
Hayley Drapkin also got into the mix. Rauchle deposited two more as well to complete a six-goal half.
The Yeowomen kept up the offensive pressure in the second half, building up a 20-4 lead before the Cardinals cashed in the game's final three scores. The six second-half scoring marks featured free-position finishes from Crowther (2) and Wessel.
Garvis corralled half of Oberlin's 14 draw controls, while goalie Sienna Marcelle grabbed a team-high four ground balls to go along with her nine saves.
Oberlin outshot Otterbein 38-23 and had a 26-14 edge in ground balls. The Yeowomen were also strong in transition as they were successful on 15 of their 18 clear attempts.
The Yeowomen are idle until March 14 when they host John Carroll University at 6 p.m.
