Findlay, OH — The Oberlin College track and field teams completed competition in 2018 at the Youngstown University Icebreaker and the University of Findlay Oiler Open over the weekend.
At Icebreaker on Friday, the NCAC distance runner of the week,
Abigail Bellows, won the 4,700-meter event for the Yeowomen. They recorded a time of 17:43.48 to beat the eight-person field.
On the Findlay campus, first-year vaulter
Sarah Voit had another impressive performance for the Oberlin women. Voit cleared 11-02.50 to best the 12 competitor field, which is currently tied for 11th in Division III. In addition,
Talia Barton placed sixth as she got over over the bar at the 10-02.75 mark.
In the triple jump, first-year
Aesha Mokashi placed second for the crimson and gold. The Portland, Oregon native earned a mark of 33-03.00.
Jasmine Keegan highlighted the throwing events with an eighth-place finish in the weight, recording a toss of 51-07.25.
Victoria Blair led the Yeowomen throwers in the shot put by tying for seventh with a heave of 39-02.25, and Keegan hit the 38-00 mark to place ninth.
Leading the way for the three athletes in the 800-meter run was first-year
Sophia Cunningham. Cunningham crossed the finish line in 2:27.26, with her classmates
Maggie Allen (2:37.12) and
Lucca Abele (2:48.94) shortly behind.
In the sprinting events,
Jada Kennerly placed third in the 200-meter dash with a time of 28.20. Also,
Carolyn Smith finished fifth in the 300-meter dash as she completed the race in 47.25 seconds.
In relay action, the 4x400-meter team featuring Cunningham,
Olivia Smith, Mokashi and
Malaika Djungu-Sungu placed third with a time of 4:28.45.
Adriano Atallah highlighted the day for the Yeomen. The second-year sprinter won the 300-meter dash with a time of 36.91, just 85 hundredths off the school record (36.06). Behind Atallah in the event was his classmate
Malachi Clemons (37.12) and
John Olsen (38.04).
In the 60-meter hurdles, freshman combined events athlete Perry Knox placed fifth (9.71) to lead the Yeomen trio. Coming right behind the Franklin, Tennessee, product was
Nkosi Johnson-Thornton (10.37) and
Victor Salcido (10.94).
Kofi Asare led the Yeomen in the 60-meter dash with a fourth-place finish, clocking in at the 7.48 second mark. Asare's teammate
Tim Martin finished fifth with a time of 7.54.
Connor Hibbard recorded a personal-best mark in the long jump event. The sophomore landed at the 20-07.00 mark to place sixth overall.
The men's throwers were led by freshman
Jon Teter who finished 14th overall (43-07.75) in the shot put, and
Hank Sinn came in 15th (43-03.25). In the weight, Sinn placed 15th (48-09.00) and
Chauncey Simmons finished 17th (47-03.00).
After the new year, the track and field team will be back in action on Friday, January 11 when they host their first meet of 2019 in the Heisman Field House at 4 p.m.
