University Heights, Ohio – The Oberlin College women's basketball team was plagued by 26 turnovers and a 37.5 percent shooting performance in a 39-34 loss to Capital University on Friday night.
No Yeowomen reached double figures on the night as
Alex Stipano led the way with nine points, while post players
Olivia Canning and
Maggie Gross each added eight points in the loss.
The Yeowomen's carelessness with the ball translated into the Crusaders taking 22 more shots and a 15-2 advantage in points off of turnovers.
Oberlin trailed 27-17 at the end of the first half and Capital would lead by as many as 15 midway through the third quarter before the Yeowomen started their comeback bid.
In the fourth quarter a string of five straight points by Canning had the margin down to 34-31 with 6:14 left to play but Stipano's 3-pointer at the 4:26 mark proved to be the last Oberlin points of the game as Capital held on for the victory.
The Yeowomen will look to regroup tomorrow night against John Carroll University. Tip-time is set for 6 p.m.
